Another "Little" Chart Topper

This past Tuesday, we took Caroline in for her 4 month (well, really 4 1/2) appointment and received a congrats for raising another healthy little baby. Dr. Baugh extended his praise for Caroline's growth and health and told Erika she "was hired!" We should hope so, about two babies too late if not! Even though she's cut back to just four feedings a day, Caroline seems to be getting plenty of nourishment since she grew 2 inches since her 8 week appointment - she now "stands" 26 inches high. And although she seems more slender than Ella at her age, she now weighs 14 lbs 7 oz! Needless to say, she's ranking her little self in the 90+ percentile among her little baby peers in respect to weight and height! Despite this, she's still our little baby and we love every little inch and pound of her! In addition, she finally did the back to tummy roll for us this week! This is not to say she enjoys "tummy time" so once she rolls over, she's more than happy to have us roll her right back (literally!)!

Waiting for the doctor

Getting my little head measured

Ok, I did NOT like this. The scale was way too cold!

Showing off for Daddy and the camera - clean bill of health for me!

Back home with my sister - she insisted I wear jeans today so we could match

Let's face it, playing with toes is so much more enjoyable than those silly toys!

My mommy thinks these hanging seats for the door frames are the best invention in the world of baby gadgets...as of now, she might be right. I love to spin on my toes and have just enough length to add a little bounce or two to my step.

Date Night

We had a well deserved date night last night at L'Academie de Cousine and enjoyed learning new recipes and cooking tips from a very experienced chef. To start, we made shrimp bisque and greek salad. For the main meal, we enjoyed herb crusted tenderloin, sauteed leeks and cabbage, and anna pomme. And, to top it off, flan! The food was delicious and the best part of the night was that we didn't have to clean up! Sure makes a difference in the kitchen when most of the prep work and ALL of the clean up is done for you! Now that, we could get used to!

Enjoying our last dish - delicious flan!

Big Shoes to Fill

There is nothing more interesting to Ella in our bedroom closet than Erika's shoes. Ella will occasionally shut herself in the closet and emerge into the bedroom wobbling in a pair of shoes that are just way too big for her! But she delights in wearing "mommy's shoes" and let's everyone know that she's "going to work." The shoes really spur her imagination as she'll klutz around in them murmuring make believe words to herself. And if there's any lesson to be learned from a toddler's mother, it's to never spend a fortune on a pair of shoes because you just never know who'll end up wearing them! And as a back-up, she can always depend on Daddy's crocs when mommy's shoes are out of sight!

Caught on camera! I see you down there in Daddy's shoes!

Hmmm, these shoes don't have Velcro....

No problem though, look at me! I'm taking me and my baby to work.

These go great with my PJs! Who cares if they're on the wrong foot!

These stairs might be a problem now....

These are my favorite pair...and this time, they're on the right feet!

But let's face it, nothings more comfy than wearing a pair of PJs and crocs!

Back Again in Two Thousand Ten!

After the longest blog hiatus in this blogs history (although certainly not the last, we're sure!), the Carlson's are back in action. Admittedly, the updates continued to be postponed because it just seemed so daunting to try to play catch up; where would we possibly have started!??!?! So, since it's the time of new year resolutions (so much for exercising more, eating right, losing weight, etc, etc), we'll resolve to be better teamcarlson, after all, it's been a great way to document our lives and big events.

So, in a nutshell, both our little girls are thriving! Caroline recently turned 4 months old and is such an EASY baby! By 7 weeks, she was sleeping 7-8 weeks at night and by 8-10 weeks, was on a standard nap/feeding schedule which meant planning days and activities was a little easier for Erika. And she's so easy to put down! No crying, no fussing, nothing! It's made life much easier since there's two, instead of one! She's a quick eater and really just loves to "stand" up and observe the world around her. She's extremely alert and seems to have the sweetest little temperament. And as Caroline gets older, Ella is starting to recognize that being a big sister might have some benefits...as Caroline becomes more alert and engaging, Ella has learned that it's fun to read her sister books or make her laugh with funny faces (we are reminded how sweet a little baby laughs are!!!). Having a baby around allows Ella to mimic her mommy during her play, especially with her baby dolls. For example, she'll put "Baby" or "Kate" in time out for "pushing" or she'll hold up a play phone to her ear and walk around talking and "cleaning up" just like she sees mommy multi-task. As a mother of two little ones, Erika's learned to involve both girls together in as many things as possible; for instance Ella will help wipe and change Caroline's diaper and when Caroline is being nursed, Ella knows that it is story time. Just yesterday, Ella grabbed a book to read while Caroline began nursing and after getting comfortable on the couch, she pulled up her shirt and placed her baby doll's face against her chest! Ha! I'm sure that would have been a great picture to see a mother nursing her infant along with her toddler nursing her baby doll!

Brr! We've had some cold weather recently along with alot snow! Tim pulls Erika and Ella through the snow!

Little C-Line...a nickname which is starting to stick due to her sister's pronunciation of Caroline!

Ok, this had be documented. After Christmas shopping at J. Crew, Ella found all the J.Crew stickers in the bag and asked Erika if she could play with them. A few minutes later, Erika goes to check on her girls and Ella has placed the stickers not only on her cheeks, but on the cheeks of Caroline, Baby, and her other doll Kate. And boy, was she proud!

Christmas time with Daddy; she's too busy with her cracker to look up for a smile!

At McCormick & Schmidt's for our annual beer before Christmas mass.
